According to the Lagos State Fire and Safety Services, there were 751 fire incidents between 2009 and 2014 out of which 61 percent of events had no smoke detector. From Lagos to Kaduna and Onitsha to Lagos, the story is the same – fire disasters ravaging markets and buildings with lives lost and millions of naira worth of property destroyed. The catalog of fire disasters is long and worrisome.
